Position Summary

The Aquatics Instructor works alongside the aquatics director with the goal of progressing the entire swim program (both curricular and co-curricular) in a quality-focused way reflecting our core values and ensuring safety remains the chief priority.

Qualifications:

• Valid aquatics programming certification such as water safety swim instructor, swim coaching or equivalent from home country or place of record.
• Certified as a lifeguard.
• Experience in swim instruction and swim team coaching.
• Able to communicate and instruct effectively in English.
• Computer literate with google suite(docs, sheets, forms, etc..), and Hytek Team Manager is desirable.
• Positive approach to working with children and the ability to motivate, inspire and build rapport.

General Responsibilities:

• Teach swimming (stroke development, water safety, and a variety of aquatic activities) PK-10 using recognized best instructional practices including but not limited to:
• Always be willing to teach in the water with age-appropriate support.
• Awareness of the individual needs of students by providing differentiated instruction with clear progressions.
• Appropriate use of various training tools.
• Ability to coach our various co-curricular swim programs (swim school and competitive swim). Co-curricular opportunities are financially stipends in addition to salary through either CI Athletics or CICP. All aquatics staff members are expected to contribute to our various co-curricular programs.
• Assist the Aquatics Director in the continual development and refinement of the aquatics curriculum.
• Prepare unit and lesson plans in collaboration with the PE teachers.
• Assess swimmers and report on their progress using school appropriate communication.
• Maintains complete and accurate records related to student progress.
• Regularly communicates progress to students, parents and teachers.
• Engages parents and students in meaningful discussions about student achievement.
• Assist the Aquatics Director with scheduling of all aquatic activities and subsequent staffing needs.
• Opening/Closing of the pool facility ensuring CI pool guidelines and policies are followed at all times.
• Assist and actively participate in the training and professional development of all aquatics staff/swim teachers/ and PE teachers.
• Supervision of lifeguards and swim instructors when the Aquatics Director is not present.
• Maintenance and issuance of pool equipment, pool office, and pool locker rooms.
• Assists the Aquatics Director in the preparation and completion of the Aquatics inventory and subsequent budgetary needs.
• Actively support our school-sponsored swim events and activities.
• Travel with the swim team as needed, locally, nationally, and internationally.
• Perform clerical tasks related to swim instruction and aquatic center activities.
• Follow and enforce the CI Aquatics pool guidelines, protocols, and EAP.
• Undertakes any additional duties which may reasonably be assigned or requested by the Aquatics Director.

Criteria For Application: Experience as a Mentor Teacher/Lead Teacher in a PYP Classroom is required.

Curriculum, Planning, and Preparation

● Collaborate, support, liaise, reflect and plan as necessary, with staff, teachers and with the PYP Coordinator

● Ensure thorough planning, effective delivery of the written, taught and assessed curriculum

● Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is student-driven and thoughtfully planned, reflected upon and prepared in collaboration with all stakeholders involved (SST, ESOL, specialists, grade level teachers, PYPC, tech integration and math coach)

● Documentation of the written, taught and assessed curriculum is done through Atlas Rubicon

● Plan with the PYP Programme of Inquiry timeline in mind to keep the schedule and meetdeadlines.

Instruction

● Teaching and Learning of the PYP Program of Inquiry is delivered through inquiry and concept-based practices where students are at the center of learning

● Selects and uses school-approved teaching strategies and classroom resources

● Implements research-based best instructional practices

● Provides differentiated instruction and demonstrates an awareness of the individual needs of students

● Engages students in learning activities which encourage creative thinking and promote critical inquiry

Assessment

● Implements summative assessment strategies that clearly measure student achievement and are directly linked to school
