Position: Grade 1 Mentor/Classroom Teacher (1-year Maternity replacement)

Criteria For Application: Experience as a Mentor Teacher/Lead Teacher in a PYP Classroom is required.

Reports to: Village School Principal

Receives Guidance From: School Administrators, Curriculum Leaders

Curriculum, Planning, and Preparation

● Collaborate, support, liaise, reflect and plan as necessary, with staff, teachers and with the PYP Coordinator

● Ensure thorough planning, effective delivery of the written, taught and assessed curriculum

● Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is student-driven and thoughtfully planned, reflected upon and prepared in collaboration with all stakeholders involved (SST, ESOL, specialists, grade level teachers, PYPC, tech integration and math coach)

● Documentation of the written, taught and assessed curriculum is done through Atlas Rubicon

● Plan with the PYP Programme of Inquiry timeline in mind to keep the schedule and meetdeadlines.

Instruction

● Teaching and Learning of the PYP Program of Inquiry is delivered through inquiry and concept-based practices where students are at the center of learning

● Selects and uses school-approved teaching strategies and classroom resources

● Implements research-based best instructional practices

● Provides differentiated instruction and demonstrates an awareness of the individual needs of students

● Engages students in learning activities which encourage creative thinking and promote critical inquiry

Assessment

● Implements summative assessment strategies that clearly measure student achievement and are directly linked to school

● Develops formative assessment strategies that enhance student learning and instructional practices

● Uses student achievement data to inform instruction

● Maintains complete and accurate records related to student progress

● Effective regular feedback and reflection is given to plan next steps with students and teachers

● Adhere to the reporting schedule for semester reports

● Adhere to Village School use of agreed upon diagnostic tools of measurement used for assessment (i.e. Running Records, WIDA, MAP NWEA)

Classroom Management

● Fosters a classroom environment that values and respects the dignity of individual students

● Maintains a safe, orderly and supportive classroom atmosphere that is conducive to effective teaching and learning

● Implements the Responsive Classroom routines, ideas and strategies to cultivate an inclusive community environment and encourage self-management behaviors

Communication

● Effectively communicates with students, support staff, parents, counselors, and administrators to address the concerns of identified students of concern

● Regularly communicates academic progress to students and parents

● Engages parents and students in meaningful discussions about student achievement

● Establishes collaborative relationships with all staff, students, and parents

● Safeguards the confidentiality of privileged information

● Updates the academic progress of students weekly on Seesaw

● Promptly respond to parent queries and concerns.

Qualifications

● Possesses a minimum of two years teaching experience

● Possesses a teacher certificate

● Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills

● Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills

● Demonstrates personal integrity and professional ethics

● Strongly desire PYP teaching experience

● Effective technology skills: Google Educator Level 1, Apple Teacher
